I've never even heard of Alkaline Ionized Water. I thought alkaline water was hard water. Hard water leaves mineral deposits on everything. That's why people by water softeners. I'm confused!

You're right. Hard water has more mineral content than soft water. However unfiltered hard water will have more mineral and metal ion content that doesn't need to go into our bodies. Water goes through 18 layers of filtration allowing alkaline minerals to remain in the water. Alkaline minerals are calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. Other contaminants are removed from filtration.
Soft water will have a harder time going through the ionized process as the mineral content is what helps with the ionizing of water. In some cases prefiltration with minerals is needed so water can be ionized....such as distilled or reverse osmosis water which is "pure" water...aka dead water...no mineral content....
